How to Choose a Corner Sofa: Size, Shape and Fabric

Grey corner sofa in a living room

A corner sofa fits more seats into the same wall space than two separate sofas, which makes it a popular choice for UK living rooms. Here is what to think about before you choose one.

Left hand or right hand?

Stand facing the sofa, as if you were about to sit down. If the longer section or the corner is on your left, it is usually called a left hand corner sofa. If it is on your right, it is a right hand corner sofa. Retailers can describe this differently, so always check the product images and the option names before you order.

Measure the room

  • Measure both walls where the sofa will sit and compare them with both lengths of the sofa.
  • Leave space to walk around it and to open doors.
  • For recliners, allow extra space behind or in front for the backrest and footrest to move. Check the product dimensions.
  • Measure doorways and hallways, as sofas are often delivered in sections.

Fabric, jumbo cord or leather?

Fabric sofas feel soft and come in many colours. Jumbo cord has a chunky ribbed texture that is popular for relaxed, family living rooms. Leather and faux leather are easy to wipe clean, which suits homes with children or pets. Browse corner sofas in each finish.

Do you need a recliner or a sofa bed?

A recliner corner sofa lets you put your feet up, and some include USB ports or cup holders. A corner sofa bed adds a spare bed and often storage under the seat. See leather recliner sofas and corner sofa beds.

Corner sofa or 3+2?

If your room is long and narrow or has a fireplace or window in the middle of a wall, a 3+2 sofa set can be easier to arrange. Many of our sofa ranges come in both corner and 3+2 versions, so you can keep the same style.
